Bethany Martin, Post Graduate Researcher

My research explores how sleep impacts daily fluctuations in self-harm thoughts and behaviours among adolescents. Through my PhD, I am developing and piloting a co-designed ecological momentary assessment (EMA) protocol to investigate sleep as a short-term risk factor for self-harm. This work aims to improve our understanding of fluctuating risk in self-harm and inform future timely intervention opportunities. I’m particularly passionate about involving young people in shaping the research itself and ensuring their voices are heard so that it is sensitive, feasible, and appropriate to them.
