Seamas Farrell, Post Graduate Researcher

My research interest lies in exploring how sleep impacts public health outcomes, particularly its potential influence on medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. I am especially interested in understanding whether, and how, improving sleep health can reduce the risk of developing such disorders, or enhance the quality of life for individuals already living with them.

My PhD research focuses on investigating the relationship between sleep and cognitive function across the adult lifespan. Through this work, I aim to identify patterns and mechanisms by which sleep duration and daytime alertness may influence cognitive aging, and how these associations may vary across different stages of adulthood. This research has potential implications for early detection strategies, preventive interventions, and policy development. I am currently engaged in this SGSSS funded project, with an expected completion date in spring 2027.
